Tuesday day and night

Yesterday I was able to get out for a bit to catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 in the morning – trying to take advantage of some of the last remaining fall color down in southeastern Connecticut.  In addition to that, later in the evening I managed to catch a quick shot of New England Central train NERWPA heading back to Palmer, MA under cover of darkness.  And this was ironically right after I finished up giving a presentation on night flash photography to the camera club I belong to.

Tuesday morning I managed to head out and catch a short P&W NR2 at Erickson Park and Mill Cove in Ledyard, then at the USS Nautilus overlook park in Groton.  There was some color left on the trees at both locations, but the majority had already fallen to the ground.  I think I did OK considering the limited fall color remaining on the trees.

With those shots in the bag, I headed back to the office.

Later that night, like I mentioned above, I put on a presentation at my camera club – the Quiet Corner Camera Club – on how to do nighttime flash photography, using quite a few of my railroad shots as examples.  During the presentation, one of the members heard horns going by, which turned out to be NECR train NERWPA heading from Palmer down to Willimantic.  Well, on the way home – which goes right by the yard in Willimantic – I saw the train preparing to head back north.  So I made a little detour, and headed for the Eagleville Dam area to set up a shot.

I got things set up and waited – but I didn’t have to wait long for NERWPA to show up.  Since they had a pretty dull looking CSOR B39-8 in the lead, I shot the second, and more interesting, unit in the consist – a New York Susquehanna & Western SD70M.  OK, to be honest, I botched the first shot – I had forgot that the flash doesn’t fire when the camera is in Live View mode.  Won’t make that mistake again…  Anyways, here’s the shot – nothing special, but worth the try.

With that in the bag, I then packed up my gear as the train rolled past me, and headed back home for the evening.

Thanks for looking!
Tom
