Geese and GEs

I’m back in Connecticut now, so I figured that I could get back into the swing of things.  I figured I could do the usual this morning – head out and catch Providence & Worcester train NR-2 while getting a little walk in.  As it ended up, that almost didn’t happen.

Listening to the scanner this morning, the P&W frequency was oddly silent.  On a whim, I headed out at my usual time – I figured at the very least I’d be able to get a little stroll in.  It was, after all, a nice morning.  So I decided to head up to Ledyard and decide along the way where I’d like to do my thing.

I swung by Mill Cove first to check things out – since the scanner was silent the entire way up, I figured I had time to head north and possibly catch them ar0und Stoddard Hill.  So I headed back to Route 12 and proceeded north.

Well, just after I passed by Dow Chemical, and right where the tracks come into view from Route 12, I happened to look to my left.  What did I see?  NR-2′s head end heading south!  Crap, I guess I’d have to try to make it back down to Mill Cove.  So it was time for a pretty-much-legal U-turn, and a quick trip back down 12 and Military Highway.

I got to the south end of Mill Cove just as NR-2′s headlights appeared north of Red Top.  I got out, and got into position – there were a number of birds hanging out on the ice floating in the cove.  As I usually try to do, I attempted to incorporate the birds into a few shots.  The angles are pretty standard fare for the cove, so there’s nothing earth shattering here, but I did manage to work the birds into a few frames – both in flight and on the ice & water.

Head to this album

And that was it for the morning.  Headed back to the office for the rest of the day.

Thanks for looking!
Tom
