Another dreary Monday here in southeastern Connecticut. Cloudy, humid and the threat of showers for the entire day. But what the hell, I still went out for my walk this morning. Being a Monday, things didn’t go as planned, but as I usually say – that usually means something better is on tap.
I headed out at my usual time for my walk, and headed for the usual spot of Erickson Park on Mill Cove. I got there, and the scanner was silent. Odd… Well, I got out and did a bit of walking. Still the scanner was silent. Looking to the north, the clouds seemed a bit thinner, so I opted to head a couple miles upriver to Stoddard Cove and check things out there. At the very least I’d get a decent walk out of it. That is, if it doesn’t rain on me in the process.
I got to Stoddard Cove a few minutes later, and parked near the boat launch. Still nothing on the scanner. So I grabbed my camera with only the telephoto on it, and my scanner and headed for the banks of the Thames River. Not much going on, so I took a few pictures around the tracks. First looking north.

Then south, but this time there was a guy walking down the tracks.

And a Poland Springs bottle caught my eye, so of course it became the subject of the next photo.

With the scanner still silent, I figured I’d head back to the office. Nothing was doing on the P&W – at least I got a walk and a few pictures in.
But on my way south, I stopped by the boat launch under the Gold Star Bridge to check out the progress of the east tower on the Thames River drawbridge. It looked like they got the northern truss mounted. So I grabbed a couple shots of the work area. First a wide shot with a eastbound Amtrak Acela passing over the bridge.

Then a telephoto of the actual north truss

And another wide shot, but this time a vertical, and also with a westbound Acela crossing the bridge.

Then the arrangement of the three bridges caught my eye. So I headed back to the car for the fisheye and got a shot of all three.

Not bad, despite the cruddy weather. With the new work done on the bridge, I figured on a couple shots from the south side of the bridge was in order. First a shot nearby.

Satisfied with what I shot, I packed the camera away and started up the car. But something else caught my eye – a fishing boat coming north in the river. So I grabbed the camera, and snapped off a couple shots from the driver’s seat of the car.

Not a bad way to cap off the morning. Not as planned, but still pretty good.
