Bending Gravity at the Library

9457330443_8831b3390a_qOver the summers here in Lebanon, the town library (Jonathan Trumbull Library) usually has events for the kids every week, ranging from crafts to movies to animal demonstrations to performers.  This week’s act needed a little larger venue to perform some of his act – since it involved sharp objects and fire.  So instead of the usual show in the lower level of the Library, it was moved outside onto the adjoining Town Green, giving him plenty of room to put on his show.  And he sure did use it all…

CSOR Hartford Shops Grand Opening Ceremony

I had the pleasure of being invited to the Connecticut Southern Railroad’s Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting ceremony for their new offices and locomotive/car shops in Hartford, CT on April 5, 2012 – not only as a guest, but also as a photographer.  And with a lunch from Black Eyed Sally’s included, how could I miss it?  BBQ and trains on a spring day…oh, yeah, well worth burning a vacation day at work.

Connecticut Renegades Spring Breakout 2011

In the immortal words of John Cleese – And now for something completely different.  OK, not really completely different – I have shot this sport before.  But it’s something that I don’t get out all that often to shoot – Cowboy Mounted Shooting.  A couple weeks ago Jill, the girls & I headed up to Enfield, CT to watch and shoot the Connecticut Renegades‘ Spring Breakout 2011 match.  It was a sunny – but windy – day, but there were plenty of shooters that I could, well, shoot.

Guns, horses, tractors & crafts – 2010 Four Town Fair

On September 18th we headed up to Somers, CT to attend the Four Town Fair – one of the better smaller country fairs in this part of the state.  Plus this fair hosts one of my favorite events to photograph – cowboy mounted shooting, something that combines horseback riding and guns.  Oh, yeah, and they also have a beer garden – something lacking in most other fairs in the state.

Coventry Farmer’s Market

Back on the 12th of September we met up with my parents, my sister and her family at the Coventry Farmer’s Market, which is held down on the Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry, CT.  When we left the house, we were expecting a typical farmer’s market (like the one here in Lebanon).  When we got there, we were greeted by more of a country fair than a farmer’s market.  Nothing wrong with that, though…

2010 Lebanon Country Fair

Still catching up on the backlog of photos.  Here we go back to August 8th when we went to the Lebanon Lions’ 51st annual Lebanon Country Fair here in town.  This year we were only able to get down there for Sunday (we normally go all three days since we live only a couple miles from the fairgrounds), but Sunday was a pretty nice day to go.  It started out with the horse show, and ended with a demolition derby and monster trucks.  Stuck in between those were everything from food, to rides, to livestock, and even a CT State Senator singing with a (now former) CT gubernatorial candidate.

Connecticut Renegades – Cowboy Mounted Shooting

Connecticut Renegades Cowboy Mounted Shooting - www.nanosphoto.com

This past weekend we went to the Four Town Fair in Somers, CT for some of the usual fair stuff – rides, food, animals and of course beer.  But the Four Town Fair has something else to offer – a Cowboy Mounted Shooting demonstration put on by the Connecticut Renegades, a CMS team from north-central Connecticut.  Take horseback riding, throw in a bit of 1880’s period costumes, a couple loaded Colt .45s (with blanks of course) and some balloons and you’ve got yourself a Cowboy Mounted Shooting event!  Read on for more…

Horsepower in Franklin

On Sunday August 16th we took the kids on a little mystery ride to check out some horsepower – not the multiple thousands of horsepower that you regular readers are used to, but rather the unit of power those ratings are derived from.  Yep, we’re talking about Equus ferus caballus – actual horses.  In Franklin, CT the Franklin Lions Club was putting on their 39th annual Horse Show, so we decided to surprise the girls and bring them over to watch for a while.

2009 Lebanon Country Fair

This past weekend was the 50th Lebanon Country Fair.  As we do every year, we head down the road (literally) and do the usual fair things – eat some not-so-healthy food, walk around, let the kids play games and ride the rides, and take in the events.  This year there were some different things to do – Saturday night there was a monster truck show, which included a pair of jet powered quads, which also put on a car-b-cue (which the Lebanon Fire Dept got involved with).  And some of the usual stuff too – horse pulls, antique and modified tractor pulls, bands, and both my daughters participating (but not winning) in the Little Miss Lebanon pageant.  But everyone had a great time.  And I took a ton of pictures (well over 1,000 over the two days we were there).  I managed to cut it down to 129 photos over the two days.  It’ll take a bit to load, but check ‘em out.  Oh, yeah, and I entered 5 of my photos in the photo contest and took 3 blue ribbons. :-)
