Over the past couple months, The Lucky Frog in Willimantic, CT – a restaurant and bar – has started up an open jam session on Wednesday nights. With the venue 5 minutes from home, I managed to make it out to a few of the jam nights to snap a few frames, as well as consume a few beers, along the way. Intermixed in all of that were family, some old and new friends and great music to bind it all together. Oh, yeah, and some pretty good wings.
No, there’s no rockets involved here – I stayed on terra firma. But I did go to a place called The Outer Space in Hamden, CT. Good friend Steve Rodgers (of Mighty Purple fame) recently opened a bar in Hamden next door to his live music/coffee house The Space, and I decided to head down to pay him a visit. How could I go wrong with beer, live music and visiting with an old friend?
On the evening of September 11, 2010 all four of us headed out for an evening of food, beer (only for Jill & I) and music. A friend of ours’ band – The Brothers Donovan – was playing at Fred’s Brick House in Willimantic. Since it’s an all-ages restaurant, and the fact that the last time we went down there with the kids they had a blast, we decided to make an evening of it.
Last Friday, in addition to leaving early for a dentist appointment (and shooting P&W NR-2), Jill & I had a chance to actually go out for the evening! We had made last minute plans with Jill’s sister, and a friend of hers from work to go check out a band at the Hartford Road Cafe in Manchester. With the plans set, and a sitter for the kids, we headed to Manchester for an evening of music, beer & fun. Well, and of course some pictures…why would I only write about the night?
Last night Jill & I had a rare night out – the kids were at a sleepover at their cousin’s house, and we took advantage of that and headed into Arch Street Tavern in Hartford to check out the reunion show of a friend’s band – The Screwdrivers. So here’s something a little different – some photos from the show.
Last Friday I had to take my wife’s nephew and his friend down to Toad’s Place in New Haven for a concert. 36 Crazyfists, Trivium and All That Remains were playing. So as usual, I brought my camera along. But I left the wide angle lenses in the bag, and only walked in with the telephoto. No way I was venturing into the pit with my camera gear…heh…
Yeah, the year isn’t officially over yet, but I figured I should do this now…here’s my favorite images from 2007. They may not be the best, but they’re some of my favorites I’ve committed to film or CMOS over the past year. They’re roughly in chronological order from the beginning of the year to now. Curious to see what you all think of my choices. And, no, they’re not all railroad related. There are some others in there…
UPDATE (12/30/07): I’ve also added links to the pertinent blog posts, if they exist.
Finally slogged through the 1,700 or so images I took way back on November 9th at Toad’s Place in New Haven. It was a benefit show that featured old friends Mighty Purple and Gargantua Soul, along with the Seth Adam Band, who also had a guest vocalist – Christine Ohlman.
